Leaders come in all types and sizes. Although some people do have many personal gifts that outfit them well to become leaders, leadership is learned and certain skills are necessary to become proficient in leading others.

Leaders can and should be coached just as professional athletes are coached. In fact, it is safe to say that many "natural leaders" never quite realize their potential because they never had the benefit of personalized mentoring and coaching.

Research and experince indicate that the environmental context, that is to say the challenge conditions of culture, organizational structure, and external forces, frame the actual need to change an organization and furthermore, these factors actually determine what leadership style and skill set will best influence the success of the change (leadership) initiative.
